July 2009 Grocery Challenge

hi all, well already started my shopping for July, a very early start for me but i'm sure it will sort itself out in the end.
So far spent £22.04 on sun-dried tomato bread (one loaf in the freezer, tons of fruit and veg, ham. Went to the market and spent even more on gouda and various cheeses, also three packs of 2x8 sausages and and pack of four beef burgers all organic and locally sourced. So don't mind paying for that.Word of warning do not buy tesco's fajitas price normally £2.99 i bought them for 90p (reduced) and they were foul_pale_. I only bought them so we didnt eat out after swimming, now i wish we had, they were that bad.Next week should only have to buy eggs and fresh fruit and veg.
Well off to bed, my head is killing me.
Good luck all !!!

Can I come back in please? I have been very busy since I last posted in the challenge (although I pop in to read regularly) and I have seen my spends gradually increasing.
I am still good with some things, I have bought lunch at work only twice since April 2008, reduced spending at supermarkets, don't buy ready meals and have had only one take away.
Problems are finding out about Farmer's Markets and being tempted by all the various meats (ostrich, buffalo etc,) and other nice things and not being able to walk away from the personal sales. Buying free range (if not organic) meat and local fresh veg is good, but not cheap!
Still going to Costco and spending too much there.
Can I be put down for 300 pounds for July please, MrsM?
(Sorry to read about your mother, hope she is OK, I have seen so many go through this as I used to test the samples)
Thanks,

I haven't done this before but desperately need to - I have been theoretically allowing 5 x £175/month for four of us (inc 2 teenagers) & 2 cats, but always seem to end up going over, despite that seeming an awful lot of money. It includes school lunches and 'functional' eating out (ie if I don't make myself a packed lunch and have to buy something, or if we eat out because I haven't planned ahead and don't have time to cook.) It doesn't include 'treat' eating out which comes from our entertainment budget. It includes catfood and toiletries etc - anything I would normally buy with the ordinary shopping.
My son is a food hoover, and my husband and I both have to eat low-carb, which bumps things up a bit, but in fact DH is away three days most weeks at the moment, so that should bring our costs down a lot as he is dining on steak at company expense, and also when he is away it is easier to cook carby stuff for the kids and just do myself something else cheap like eggs or tofu which he hates.
So I'm going to stick my neck out slightly and go for 5 x £150. I'm taking the cards out of my purse and going cash-only.
So that is £750 please for HalfaSixpence for July.[/COLOR]
Thank you.0 -

Can I put my budget down as £150 for July, please? Thank you! This is looking at an average spend of £30 per week as we are working a 5 week month. This budget is for food (organic animal produce whenever available), toiletries and household stuff for 2 adults, 1 toddler and a new baby.
Good luk with July everyone! Hope you all have a great monthLove and compassion to all x0 -

please put me down for £400 for july thankyou
thats for 2 adults , 2 teenagers and a cat, for food, toiletries, cat food , cleaning stuff, packed lunches and to pay the milkman
thankyou0 -
Please put me down for £90 again for this month. I don't feel I can shave anything else off the budget at the moment - I go shopping once a week and if we run out of something, we do without until the next shopping day. I will do my mealplan for this week now, to hopefully keep me on track.
Also, this amount is for food only, toiletries are a seperate budget and we can't afford to eat out, so no budget for that one!0 -

Hi everyone,
I'm in again this month & have upped the budget slightly to take into account the beginning of the school holidays & a 5wk month  I've found that if I keep a big fruit salad made up in the fridge (made from Aldi's Super Six fruit) and offer things like cheese/peanut butter/pate on crackers for snacks it helps keep them full & away from munching through crisps by the 30 pack
Thanks to Pink, Mrs M & Rosieben for all the hard work you do to keep the challenge running :A smoothly. Sorry to read your Mum has not been well Mrs M too.0
