  • I like it - it is a nitrogen fixer and stays green even when your lawn is yellowing in dry weather! Good for bees too - Can you not learn to love it?

We have a similar problem from time to time and it does tend to spread quite rapidly. We use Verdone weedkiller which works well. You dilute the liquid in a watering can and spray on the affected parts but you may need a second application if it's growing strongly. Be sure you wash the can out well afterwards or any residue could kill other plants. In this hot weather I suggest you water the affected clover parts in your lawn well first before applying the liquid weedkiller; otherwise it will dry out too quickly to be effective.

I know you don't, but just to say, I like clover too! It feeds bees and stays green even in droughts.

You should find that a couple of doses of Verdone should kill the clover off for a couple of seasons. It will probably creep back eventually as it's a fairly resillient plant. I've just put the first dose on our lawn this season after watering it well, and expect to have to give it another dose in 2 or 3 weeks time. If you use Verdone, be sure not to put the first mowing on your compost heap, and the next three mowings should be rotted down for at least 9 months on a compost heap before using the compost.

I like it too, I'm not going to have a grump on, but I think it's a shame that we have people wanting monocultured gardens, or even lawns. A perfect (in some peoples eyes) lawn does nothing for any wildlife. I expect someone to jump up now and say....... well I like wildlife, but I just want my lawn to be nice........

Well you don't like it that much do you? otherwise you would do something about it!

:rotfl: I did have a grump on

Got to say I agree with foreign correspondent, ixwood and lotus-eater. Each to their own but the whole weed, feed and water ethos to get manicured lawns leaves me cold.

Pretty though and the lickle animals love em :D

You can eat them as well and make coffee out of the roots..... although having tried this once, I wouldn't advise it ;)

  • I always worry a little about people with the perfectly manicured lawns - I think they must have some strange priorities in life, and I bet they are hell to get stuck talking to at a party!
