Student accounts and credit ratings

Hello,
How good does my credit rating need to be to give me the best chance of getting a student account with overdraft?
I don't want to use one, but having it as a buffer would be a weight off my mind.
In February I had about 8 credit searches, so I know I'm better waiting til they have gone. I have a credit card that is paid off every month, no late payments (although they did try to charge me early last month, they eventually admitted their mistake and refunded the charge but I don't know if it is on my credit file...will it make much difference?)
I'm also on the electoral register as of Wednesday, which I believe should help, too.
So am I likely to get one? I want to bank with Natwest for the rail card, so I'll be opening a new account from scratch.
Thanks!

most potential Uni students are 18 and have no credit history, no OD, no CC, no credit searches and get student bank accounts OK... well there would be no point in having student bank a/cs otherwise
your circumstances seem somewhat different .. maybe you could share why with us.0 -
Thank you for replying so fast.
In February I had nowhere to live, after being kicked out by my parents (it's a long story, they no longer wanted children). I had a few credit searches done (4, I think) while trying to get an overdraft at either of my banks. The last search is for my credit card, which I got on the advice of somebody from here. It was to help build my credit rating. I pay it off in full every month, and have had it since December.
I was on the electoral register at my old address, but not at my new one, but I will be from Wednesday.
Do you think I'm unlikely to get an account then?Signature down for maintenance :rotfl:0 -
I'm sorry for your situation with your parents
No, I can see no reason why you shouldn't get a student bank a/c with OD, its just that your situation is not a standard one with respect to credit searches.
But wait until the A/L result are out and the 'proper' student a/cs season starts and no more credit applications until then.0
