Disney Med Cruise - anyone been?

I'm really interested in booking on a Disney Mediterranean Cruise for next year, but I've been struggling to find info on it. I can only seem to find it with Virgin holidays - anyone know any other companies who may be selling it?

I've tried a couple of local travelagents, one was pretty clueless about it, and the other seemed to know abit and that a brochure should come out soon. But info seems to be quite vague. There is a phone number on the Virgin website, but thought I'd ask here first before I tried it. :o

Has anyone been on any of the Disney cruises (US or Med), if so, how was it or any advice/tips?

Thanks

I would price it up on www.Disneycruiseline.com

It is very difficult to get discounts on DCL but if you book with one of the (usually american) cruise agents you may be able to secure some onboard credit.

I would love to do this but the prices are frightening!

    I really fancied this too.

From my understanding they are not starting yet as prices in the Disney website are for June/July 2010. Maybe it is provisional to see how many people will show an interest.

There was something about in The Sun a few weeks back and yes, they mentioned that it was only with Virgin but I could not see anything on their website so I googled it and found it on the Disney Cruise Line website. It was priced at around £1000pp in The Sun but I looked for the Northern Europe 12 day cruise that goes out of Dover (purely so we would not have to pay for additional flights) and for the one leaving in July 2010 it was priced at a staggering $17,000 for 2 Adults and 2 Kids to stay in the cheapest cabin - better cabins cost around 2k more and then upwards.

At that moment I thought I would give it a miss. It would be cheaper to get a flight to Florida and go around the Caribbean. I do wonder if there will be the take up and whether these will go ahead.

I've just googled the 11 night Med Cruise with flight and it is just short of $9,000 for an inside cabin, if you want an outside view it is $10,000 upwards.

Thanks for the replies. Just had a look at the Disneycruise site, priced it for 2 adults & 1 child for the 8 day med cruise, in the cheapest inside cabin and it came in at just over £3000, then we'd have to add flights too. Could be quite costly lol. The travelagent I spoke to said it was piloted for a season last year, but not on this year. Would have thought they'd have brochures out already for 2010 though.

If we were to do this, then I don't think we'd be having anymore hols for a couple of years afterwards. DH thinks we'd get better value on a 'normal' cruise, or reckons a Caribbean cruise would be cheaper lol.

We`ve done several Disney cruises - all in the Carribbean. They are great. We have booked directly with Disney and US travel agents - although you are paying in $$ - so factor in the exchange rate.
    Look at www.dreamsunlimitedtravel.com
Also forums such as thedibb.co.uk passporter.com and disboards.com.
Basically any Disney world site will have info.
For my money those Med and Baltic cruises are very expensive and priced for the Americans who only trust the Disney brand.

Bluemonkey - The prices for next summer have been live on the Disney website for ages, I know several people who are already booked on European ones (and have been for quite some time).

    It's definitely not provisional.

What I meant was there was not that many cruises, maybe if there was not much take up they would cancel them.

It's a huge amount of money, we are off to WDW next year and thought it might be an alternative to go on the cruise but 5k will be rtn flights, accomodation, tickets and all spending money & food for us, so looks like we will still be doing that instead of the cruise. I could have stomached 5k but $17,000 for basic accomodation is just ridiculous - and no rides!! The kids would have been devasted to be honest, LOL. Tbh, were banking our timeshare weeks and staying in DVC so we can probably do that for 4k.
