Q) combi boiler, turn off on hols or not ???
hi, i have a worcester 30si combi boiler. would you turn it off at the mains when going on holiday so theres no power going to it at all?
i was going to do this as once the batteries died on the wireless programmer/stat and it turned the heating on - i dont want this to happen whilst i am away.
or theres a frost protection setting on the heating knob, could i turn the heating onto this.
also would you turn the water off at the stop tap? would this affect the boiler/presure at all?
kind regards, al

If I was you and I was going on holiday I personally turn the water off at the mains (I have a meter so If a leak sprung during my hols it would cost me money) I turn the gas off at the mains as well and I turn my combi off at the switchs on the front and then turn it off at the mains switch. The combi is a sealed system for the heating so it will not affect the pressure in the system. Also think about if you left it on and one of your hot taps sprung a leak, potentially you would have hot water being generated constantly 24 hours a day until you got home. That would be a gas bill from hell.
I leave the elecy on as I have timers on the lights that come on when it is dark for a period to simulate somebody being in.
Then I go on holiday.0 -
thankyou very much, i will turn the water off, and also turn the combi off at the mains switch.
how do you turn the gas off at the mains???0 -
Just like the water where the gas enters the house there will be a tap to turn it on or off.
If you do not know where it is find the gas meter and the tap to turn on or off will be before the meter and the supply into your house. This sounds bad english - the tap will be between the supply entering your house and the gas meter. It will not be after the meter if you follow the gas pipes.0 -
/would not advise you to turn the boiler off during the winter (due to pipe freeze) but since its summer then you should go for it. Although I do get enquiries about this working for British Gas about the pilot light not coming back on when off for a while.0

Yes, it is very advisable to turn off during summer time. By all means, avoid winter time due to pipe freeze0
