Remote Control Extension Advice

I have just purchased one of these remote control extension leads.
Unless I have in some way set this up incorrectly, I wrongly assumed that I would be able to turn off each individual plug on the extension. Getting it home it seems that I can only turn on/off all the plugs on the unit.
Does anybody know of any such item that I might be able to buy?
I have considered the individual remote control plugs but I really need a whole unit that has six sockets. This is because I have to leave some appliances on constantly and the other items are on at various times for a varity of reasons.
Any suggestions?

Unfortunately i bought it from B&Q without doing any research before hand.
Does anybody know if there is such an appliance that can control the individual sockets?0
