Well you certainly caught our attention! Do you love her? Do you think she loves you? Was everything okay before? Do you want to try to work it out? How long has it been since her grandfather died? (Grief is an odd thing. It's far from straightforward and plays some unexpected tricks on your mind.)

I wish you luck because you sound pretty fed up and obviously love your kids. Don't do anything rash is my only advice. (The questions were just food for thought. I'm not expecting you to answer them.)
May all your dots fall silently to the ground.

hi - the common-law marriage idea is a myth. If your name is on the mortgage, then the partner has no claim to the house, or any proceeds from it. It doesn't matter how long you have been with someone, in law, then you are classed as strangers, when it comes to the mortgage and rights over the ownership over the house.

The only slight deviation to this,is if she can prove she has made a significant contribution to the paying of the mortgage and a court could make a decision she could be entitled.

but, I'm guessing that your GF is looking for support and help at the moment - hopefully you can get through this together with time. I also echo the thoughts on depression - it might be worth doing a little reading , I remember finding some useful information on the BBC website.

    Good luck with everything.
