claiming bank charges from a closed bank account i cant remember the details for.

Hi there,

i was just wondering if anybody could give me some advice, i have 2 current accounts i would like to reclaim charges for, one was opened (by HSBC) after HSBC shut my previous account in 2006.

i have no details for this account anymore but remember the branch it was opened in, can anybody advise me on how i would go about getting the information on this closed bank account, and claiming for the charges?

i assume if i write to HSBC enclosing £20 and ask for the breakdown of charges in the account that i know and the old account that i dont, they would have to find it and send the info to me?

Thanks :)

Include any info you can: full name & address, DOB, branch, approximate dates of opening & closing a/c's, utility/CT bill for new addres if you have moved, plus only one £10 for both a/c's.

If you go to the branch where you had the a/c's, they may be able to trace them

They have 40 straight days to respond. Have they cashed the £10?

I believe so, I'm not 100% sure, I cant find a stub anywhere but i doubt i would not have sent it recorded. I'm going to double check the cheque hasnt been cashed.

Then you might want to complain to the ICO

It WAS under the Data Protection Act 1998. I think you might want to send another letter to HSBC Head Office reminding them that you requested details under the Data Protection Act 1998 and they didn't comply.
