Eon raising DD

Eon have written to us to say that despite us providing online meter readings every month for the last year, it appears they ignored them and estimated our usage.

Now they are increasing our DD from £75 pm to £181  to clear the arrears and cover winter usage.

Now, I understand we've used this amount but my question is - Do they have to give us as long to pay back the debt as they allowed it to build up? They have calculated us paying it back over 6 months and it built up over 1 year (despite us giving readings)

To say i'm furious is an understatement. I can't afford £181 per month!

I found eon useless for accepting online readings too, but I could increase the DD amount online to cover what I knew I was using so that may be worth doing if you stay with them. Meanwhile, yes you can ask for longer to pay, but bear in mind that some of that increase is a reflection of what you use - so even if you paid the outstanding amount, your DD is going to be a lot higher than £75.

From the information you have, you should be able to work out how much of that £181 is for this year's usage and how much is debt clearance. I would work out how much your monthly payment would be to clear your debt over a year before you ask for it - you need to make sure you can afford it.

    Hi sexki11en,

As you say you have been entering your meter readings online but they have not been used, this is usually down to the readings being entered outside the billing window.

The best time to enter the reads is a few days before the bill date, your next bill date will show on the account history page of your online account.

I would definetly ask E.ON to spread the debt over a longer period of time, if this will help you.

Did you provide your accurate reads when you received estimated bills, over the 12 months? and was the account re-billed to these reads?
