virgin media - 1899

There might have been a post about this, but I have only just found out that I have been charged by Virgin Media for all the 1899 calls I have made. I had foolishly assumed that the access number would remain a freephone number when Virgin Media took over the Telewest accounts.

If you are using the freephone access number 0808 1 708 708 then this is free from vm landlines.

How are you using the service? You need to dial the access number, wait for the automated voice to start and then key the full number you want (followed by #).

I know when my mom first started using 1899 on a cable line she was hanging up after dialling the access code, took me a while to figure out why the calls were being charged by Telewest!

Rather than have to dial the 1899 code every time, if you have a phone with memory, set up the access number in its memory then you only have to wait until the phone finishes dialling, enter the number you want (including its code, even if local) and key in the hash.
