How to put ON weight?

Hello, Just posting on behalf of my Husband. He is somewhere just under 6ft and Im not exactly sure of his weight but for the sake of it I'll say around 9 stone. He is underweight and would like to put weight on but hes struggling. He can eat and eat and eat and he doesnt put on anything! We did try those Build Up things for a little while but theyre so expensive we couldnt keep getting them as we dont have much income at the moment. Is there any other way he can put on weight, or somewhere else we can get Build Up for cheaper or a similar product? We thought maybe the health food shops but he is embarrassed about it.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks in advance

Has he been to his GP just to make sure there is nothing untoward?
Is he an active person? Have a physically demanding job?
He needs to up his calorie intake. I'd be wary of just eating crap food coz it will raise salt levels etc and just make him feel crap.
Maybe extra carbs, pastas etc. More fruit and veg. :undecided0 -
Honey, try this site:
https://www.bodyactive-online.co.uk/epoint/weightgain_supplements.asp
My OH orders from them and GNC. He drinks a lot of milk with the powder and lifts weights. He was pleased today as he weighed himself and is actually putting on weight. I know how your OH feels as I try to keep my weight up too.
I think he gets protein powder, not sure which one though!0 -

He isnt registered with a doctor as he doesnt think the ones I go to are good enough (they arent) but I think its about time he found one.
I would say hes active in that he runs and jumps around the house a lot lol and goes bike riding sometimes too. He is out of work at the minute so no physically demanding job.
I know its bad for him to have crap food so were trying to avoid that route as it wont work. Its just strange we eat the same things and I just look at it to put on weight and he puts nothing on eating it lol. Only difference is I'm vegetarian and he eats meat.Weight loss November 09-January 10: [STRIKE]13lbs[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]20lbs[/STRIKE] 27lbs! :j0 -

The problem with this is that protein is designed to make you put on muscle, not fat.
The more muscle you have, the more fat you will burn as muscle burns 10 times as many calories that fat does.
Your OH might be putting on weight, but his body fat percentage probably isn't going up. This is coz muscle weighs more than fat.0 -
Hiya...
He should consume 500 more kcal of calories a day, and instead of eating 3 meals a day, have 6!
Pasta is a good way to gain weight too...that's what Robert Dinero ate to put wieght for the Raging Bull film.
Sumo wrestlers eat high calorie, high fat meals and consume 5000 to 8000 calories per day. They takes naps immediately after meals to ensure the weight stays on.*If you like the advice I give...let me know by clicking the THANKS button*

He could maybe try keeping a food diary, and entering it into https://www.fitday.com to see if he's eating enough. If what he's eating is already enough, then he should really go to a doctor to rule out anything.Owing to financial constraints, the light at the end of the tunnel has been switched off until further notice.

Thankyou very much for this link! Ive entered what he has eaten today and it is not much over 1000 calories! Ive given him the link and I registered him and told him I want it filling in every day so we can fix this! Im very surprised he has eaten so little, but then I ate mostly the same so we are both as bad as each other I guess. Time for changes!Weight loss November 09-January 10: [STRIKE]13lbs[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]20lbs[/STRIKE] 27lbs! :j0 -
i have this problem, i'm 5'6 and weigh 9 1/2 stone about 60kg. i have been a vegetarian (not too strict) for about 4/5 years and this doesn't help when trying to put on weight. veggie protein usually is low in fat, so whereas a meat eater usually gets a fair bit of fat with their protein, a veggie does not.
i am aware i need to maintain a decent weight as i do quite a physical job. i rarely eat crisps or chocolate, but i will eat biscuits and cake as i see them as slightly less processed/packaged. its all about how calorie dense a food is.
milk is good for this, and can easily be used with breakfast cereal, milkshakes, instant whip desserts, which all taste nice. cheese is also calorie dense and tasty in things such as grated on a jacket potato, in a roll or melted on toast. if i didnt consume dairy i think i'd waste away!
tuna is a good protein source (not a strict veggie), and mixed with mayonnaise this has some fat too. nice in sandwiches and again on a potato.
i think its important to do some exercise in order to built up an appetite. i get hungry at work and realise now this is the best time to eat. when i come home i laze about and dont feel hungry as im not doing a lot. so if ive managed to get through work on very little food i can often end the day not having eaten that much, and probably only have had around 1000 calories as you mention above.0
