Washing machine recommendations

I got so fed up with having to replace my slogged to death washer every 3-6 yrs that I changed to a top loader with an estimated life span of 15yrs although most American's run a washer for 30yrs+ and think they are just breaking it in
I hope I'm as lucky!
After using the one's we get on holiday in Florida I tend to agree with you...
although - Been happy with my Bosch ( now about 6 yrs old )Any posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0 -
Thanks again for all the replies.
One issue though. Not sure about washing machines, but my friend bought a smeg cooker (expensive and you would think it would last) After 14 months (2 months out of warranty) the oven broke. Only Smeg themselves would come and sort it out, and it cost them £200 for the priviledge.
Has anyone else found the more expensive (perhaps less popular) items cost more to repair?0 -
we've got a zanussi, so far so good, but have to remember to keep the filter clean.
been tempted to take out insurance just in case but always forget and so far saved about 300 quid over these 4 years! more than the actual washing machine!ummm...0 -
My usual comments on washing machines...
Metal box, lump of concrete, motor, few wires... buy the budget models, for £200 ish, on the credit card that extends makers warranty, save/spend the £$£$£$ difference for something else.

Best washer I ever had cost £99 reconditioned it was a Hotpoint and it lasted over 10 years.

We currently have an Ariston which cost £200 and has been trouble free for 6 years.
Looks not important as it is in the utility room so no-one sees it, I would be reluctant to pay £500 for a washer.
I have Bosch fridge and dishwasher and a Siemens extractor built into my kitchen and a Bosch freezer in the utility room so I am not averse to brands..0 -
My theory is that the simpler the machine, the less can go wrong!
I bought a candy washer fro about £260 six years ago. (Around the same time as I gave birth to twin boys) Suffice to say it has taken alot of welly in those six years. It does around 15 washes a week. I have not had a single problem with it during that time - touch wood.Twins, twice the laughs, twice the fun, twice the mess!:j:j0 -
been looking for a machine as well, and the one that I have been recommended is the BOSCH CLASSIXX 1400 (Model number WFO2866).
It is £350 in John Lewis (they are price matching another competitor), and apparently it is a cracking machine.
FWIW, most manufacturers have a 10yr cover on some parts (not exactly sure whihc parts), but do not advertise it so much!! Or so that is what the bloke at JL in Edinburgh told me.
Also, he recomended the Miele, but also said that if I was not concerned about having the 'best brand', then the Bosch was the better value for money machine.
Anyone know if it available cheaper than £319? That is the online price at COMET. Store price is £350One day I want to be the pigeon...... and not the statue!0 -
We have an AEG that is now over 15 years old and it has been great.
I do however think there is a little luck in these machines.
I would however probaly aim for one of the better makes.
The one bit of advice I have been given on extended warranties is that they are a rip off but the only ones even worth considering are those for machines that involve water!!0 -
Help!
My little lad was sick on his single duvet - I put it in the washing machine-it made a funny noise and is not spinning at all now :'(
Do I need to buy a new one or do you think it is repairable?
Also, if I need to buy a new one I really do need the cheapest - I have no money left after Christmas.
Thanks for your replies
