Deposit for storage

Hello all,

Today I put a deposit down on a storage room to be moved into tommorow. However, I have now discovered that I can store my furniture in a friends basement free of charge. I paid £80 to the storage company today over the phone...my question is is there any possibility I can get this money back? I haven't signed anything but they have sent a receipt to my e-mail. There don't seem to be any terms or conditions on their website regarding deposits and there is no longer anyone in the office to speak to. I know this was a stupid thing to do but I have just finished uni and panicked about where my things would go when I leave my town for the Summer and jumped into something without thinking it through. Any advice would be very much apprecicated!!

Maybe it would be a good idea to ask them if you can get your money back? If they say no, then re-post...
If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

It all depends on what the deposit was for. Was it a security deposit that would be returned to you when you vacated the space? or was it a non-refundable deposit to secure the space for you?

It was a non-refundable one which was going to be used against the price for the first month's rent...however, they kindly refunded it anyway! They found someone else to use the space and therefore said they would give back my deposit as a goodwill geasture. Sorry for the gap in posting I've been moving over the weekend and thank you to both of you for your posts.
