Wi-fi Connection Problem

Hi all.

I was running 2 laptops & a pc off of a BT Hub but have just switched to sky.

My Mcafee just ran out of term but it comes free with sky broadband on their disk.

You have to uninstall the version you have at the moment which is what I did.

I have it up & running fine on the Vista Laptop but the XP one will not allow connections to Wi-fi.

I have uninstalled McAfee off the XP laptop but it still will not let me connect or let me view any wireless connections (there is a good 4 or 5 that can get picked up from my house).

Any ideas??

  • "windows cannot configure this wireless connection"

If you have used........... use that software

If you want to configure this wireless connection, start the wireless zero configuration wzc service ..... see article 871122 in the microsoft knowledge base on microsoft.com"

I think it was the network tool for Mcafee that overided xp but thats "gone" now.

Looked on microsoft for 871122 & its there but says "4 On the Wireless Networks tab, click to select the Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings check box."

There is NO "Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings check box."

    You Need to go to:
Control Panel > Administrive Tools > Services.

The Scroll To The Bottom. There should be a service called "Windows Zero Configuration"
Right Click and Go Properties and find "StartUp Type" Set This To Automatic. Then under Service Status Click the Button "Start".

    This Should work Hopefully.

  • That doesnt work.

Its connected to my next door neighbours secure (but obviously blocked from doing anything) but wont recognise any wireless networks & just displays the above.

Have you got any other programs, managing the wireless networks , Like for example and Intel Wireless Card , will normally have software managing it?

  • No.

The only thing I can think of is the uninstall of Mcaffe has left a bit of wireless network protection on it.

Yer completely Remove Mcaffe , reboot and then see if it made a difference. Nortons & Mcaffe < Dislike . AVG & Kaspersky < Like.
