My parents have changed from BT Basic to BT Option 1. When you try and use 18185 you get a recorded message saying that BT basic users, light users cannot use the service. Asked 18185 but no help and BT says its not blocking the line. Any one know how i can fix the problem.

Welcome to the MSE forums norwichman.
At a guess, there's still a 'marker' on the line saying it's on LUS. Only BT can remove that.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Hi norwichman,
Can you please PM me your parents telephone number and I will take a look into this for you. Please put FAO Sean on the PM.
Cheers
Sean

Rang BT and got passed from place to place. Most support staff did not even know what an 18186 was. They claim that they are not blocking the line. Do they by law able to block access to override providers?0

BT can (and does) block them for those on the Light User Scheme. It cannot for those paying standard line rental rates.norwichman wrote: »Yes I have but still have not received a reply. Could you PM me your parent's account details and I can check for you. There may be a marker on the line which is why your parents are receiving the message whenever they dial the number. Apologies for the delay in my response, have been unable to locate your previous PM you sent through.

I have done for the second time a private message. What is happening?0

It will almost certainly be a marker on your line from when you had BT Basic, same thing happened to me when I took the line over from a previous occupant, it took about 3 days to sort it out

Did my private message for the second time
Still no reply
Still it better than ringing BT costomer services as they claimed the line was not blocked, or had no clue what i was talking about.0
