Can anyone PLEASE help me with my sugar bowl... When I wash the bowl out, no matter what I do to dry it, the sugar still ends up clumped and a mess. I have tried dring it with paper towels, putting the whole thing on the radiator and even putting bread in! (dont ask me why, must have read it somewhere)
What do you do?

Have you left it to air for any length of time? I would leave it overnight before I put any more sugar in it.0

Tried that too.... Left it for longer probably. Its just one of these annoying things in my life that I would like solved... then I'll live happily ever after.... hmmmm, well, I might!!0

I often leave bowls or storage jars for ages before putting stuff like sugar or flour back in. I will leave mine on the radiator for a few hours at least just to make sure, then make sure they cool down again before fillling them, in case the heat starts to melt the sugar.0

Thanks I will try again, and be patient this time. I will have to get another sugar bowl, then at least everyone wont be dipping the wet teaspoon in the sugar bag!!0

Where do you keep your sugar bowl when you are not using it.
Sugar is very like salt and will draw moisture out of damp air.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -
Just a thought (never tried it). Do you save those little silica gel sachets that come in new handbags? I would imagine that if after washing out and drying the bowl, you left the silica gel sachet in the bowl for a day or so, you might find it had absorbed the moisture. That's what silica gel sachets are there for.

it sounds like it is that the sugar is absorbing the moisture out of the air and that is what is making it all clumpy and hard. Have you tried covering the bowl when not in use, say with a saucer or some cling film. One other thing is that you could get one of those sugar pourers that you see in some cafes - I think you can get them in places like poundland and so on - that will keep all the moisture out. Finally what I do with my salt seller and sugar bowl is to put it them in a very low oven for about an hour after they have been washed. I also put a few grains of rice in my salt seller and then it never gets all bunged up!!Jane

Thanks everyone. There is a lid on the bowl, but its not airtight, (ceramic). Good idea about the silicon bags, and I think I'll try get a sugar pourer thingy too, for a second pot.
Thanks again, sounds like my problem may be solved!0 -
I might be wrong, but I think lakeland sell something like a clay bear shaped thing to put in with sugar to stop it getting damp. Or was I dreaming?MFW 1/5/08 £45,789 Cleared mortgage 1/02/13

But are they dipping the wet teaspoon in the sugar bowl? That will make the sugar clump together.0
