Faulty Laptop after 10 months

We bought a laptop in August 08. Since then it's been away twice for repair for the same fault, and now it's happened again.
Are we able to take it back to PC world for a replacement under goods not fit for purpose? Or anything we can do to get an immediate replacement?
Thanks

Hiya not being funny but good luck with getting anything replaced from PC World, I have only today after almost a month of my original laptop being away for repair then the actual laptop was DOA on arrival to my house after being repaired, I have only today got my new laptop and it took 4 days of fighting, complaining being verbally abused by store staff
like I said good luck with tryingOf all the things I have lost I miss my mind the most£2,960 in debt to RBS paying off at £10 a Fortnight0 -

its not impossible at all
i had my laptop replaced with currys(same company)
originally i was going the sale of goods act but it just so happened that my repair went over a time limit that helped me out but i was getting somewhere anyways
so to start off
whats the fault?
whats the laptop?
how much did you pay?
how did you pay?
and finally did you take out the extended warranty?
ill give you a more comprehensive answer to you when i know all that infoBack by no demand whatsoever.0 -
Fault - The AC adapter socket keeps falling out of the laptop, usually inside the computer. As I said, third time this has happened
Laptop - Toshiba
How much - round about £400 I think
Paid - Credit Card
No extended warranty0 -

ok you need to write or email your credit card company for for a refund of the goods as the "jointly and severably liable" under section 75 of the consumer credit act as the laptop has an inherent fault and under s14 of the sale of goods act the goods do not fit the expectation of "durability" and are not of "satisfactory quality"
this is your easiest path
less resistance than pc world and you wont have to pay for an engineers report hopefully.
contact consumers direct for some further advice and templates for letters to the credit card company, you "should" get a full refund so you can buy another better laptop
as long as you would be happy with that?
what toshiba is it, i can have a quick look at what you can get for 400 that is better than yours if you tell me the modelBack by no demand whatsoever.0 -
It's my Dad's laptop and my little brother uses it primarily and he's lost!
I'm out of the house at the moment so I'll get the model number later on.
Thanks for all the info, much appreciated0 -
ok
i had a quick gander anyways

thats good value
£40 extra but its a very good set of specs, i suspect double what you have now
ok so you may not need the specs but its cheap for a core 2 duo laptop which for future proofing and performance is a must really nowadays
what is the laptop used for?Back by no demand whatsoever.0 -
All it's used for is internet...the sims and iTunes when I go on it. And word occasionally.0

consider a netbook
all modern ones would sail through what you have listed
id just be concerned about the sims play on a small screen.
ps i assume you meant the 1st sims?
otherwise go with what i showed you
or this

not as goot as what i showed you before
personally i would reccomend shelling out the extra money for the acer
but it depends on you circumstances
also it may be worth while to wait a bit as windows 7 is coming out soon and retailers will be selling laptops with a free upgrade to it when it comes out
currys have started and others are soon to follow

thats an example of what i meant, its also a good in-between of the other two models with the win 7 upgrade
i highly suggest you do go for a win 7 upgrade laptop as its a much better os than vistaBack by no demand whatsoever.0 -
Yeah it's just the first sims. He won't change for some reason.
Well we'll see what happens with the whole credit card thing first. I'm sure my Dad will let the boy choose his own...but I'll be sure to tell him everything you've said thanks0 -
More often than not this problem is due to the AC adapter plug (at the laptop end) being subject to force (e.g. it might be on your lap most of the time and being flexed upwards against your knee, or it might be jammed against a wall on a desk).Fault - The AC adapter socket keeps falling out of the laptop, usually inside the computer. As I said, third time this has happened

Physical pressure on something that is essentially soldered onto a circuit board will cause it to break unless the design is like on some laptops where the socket is part of the chassis. The thanks button is here to the right.
