Do the readings on the bill match the readings when you moved in and your readings now?

From your figures, it looks as if you are using about 900kwh day and 900kwh night in about six weeks, averaging at about 40kwh a day. That's a stupid amount of electricity. We are a family of six using about 13kwh a day. Even more odd is that you seem to be using about 20kwh overnight.

If you have gas CH, you almost certainly don't need Econ 10 or Econ 7, you'd be better off on a single rate tariff. However, for you, Econ7 is probably Ok because you use half of your electricity at night.

You need to find out what's racking up your bill - could you have a dodgy immersion heater on all the time? Dial meters not read accurately? Something else?

    Hi Ravernoloo,

I think it’s important to establish if the meter in your property is the same as the meter E.ON have on record. The meter will have a serial number check this number matches the number on the bill.

Dogshome may be right here, the fact that it’s an E10 meter suggests that the property had all electric heating before the GCH was fitted. Whoever changed the heating system should have contated the supplier to arrange for the meter to be changed to a single rate or E7 meter type.

The usage is still high, so checking all the readings is important as is checking for an immersion heater that maybe still using energy. List all your appliances and the amount each is used and call E.ON to discuss it further, the consumption team will use the information you give to see if you are using an amount that is inline with the readings.

If you have lost records of meter readings from when you moved in, can you see if the letting agency or the L/L recorded these?

Hi Ravernoloo - Been following the thread and it seems that the Gas Boiler the council installed for you, was at least the second one since the Storage Radiator heating was abandoned, which means the Storage Rad system was very, very old and would have had a seperate, possibly white, meter. When the heating was changed over to gas the wiring for the heaters should have been dis-connected at the fuse box and the fuses pulled - if this was done there is no way that the meter could record any use of overnight power, (The council should also have advised EON and we know they didn't do that either). Fortunately the council as landlords are responsible for the wiring - Get on to them and report that you have a possibly Dangerous Wiring Fault.
    Good Luck
