    Hi Okay_2,

As discussed earlier, this bill is the result of E.ON holding incorrect meter information. The records showed the meter as metric when it was actually a imperial meter.

This means that although you were paying your bills, you were constantly being asked to pay a much lower amount than you were consuming.

The billing codes of practice have been mentioned on this thread, and I think it is definitely worth looking at this further. If you discuss this with E.ON they will review the situation and make a judgement.

Remember if you disagree with the decision the complaints process is in place to help the customer, follow the suppliers’ complaints process and if a resolution isn’t met, the Ombudsman will investigate your case.

Whether billing code applies or not to this particular case I can’t say, each case is different and there will be many factors involved. In the meantime if you dispute the bill you won’t be chased for payment.

I wouldn't change suppliers right now. open a dispute and see where that gets you before moving things around which will only complicate thinsg further i.e. final bill and final meter reading etc.

Surely the records show that the meter was metric when it was actually Imperial.

I also wonder why the OP decided to change companies when he was only paying for one third of his gas?

I dont understand why nobody gets this. If you use a comparison site and put in that you are with EON paying £500 per year then the comparison site will work out how many units that is by using what EON charge per unit. It will then list other suppliers who would work out cheaper than £500 per year for the same amount of units used.

Goes to show you should only compare on units used rather than price paid. I'm guilty of the above though - normally dont have the units used to hand!

Whilst I agree that inputting consumption in kWh rather than £ will give a more reliable result in comparison sites, I fear it wouldn't have helped the OP in this instance.

Most people would obtain their kWh consumption direct from their past bills. Unfortunately the kWh the OP would have on the bill would only be 1/3 of that actually consumed.
Even if the customer contacted the supplier, the lower level of kWh would almost certainly be advised since they only get their information from historical bills too.
