Help towards work clothes?

Hi there,

I'm due to go back to work next monday after getting a full time job, ive been on income support for 18months with my little girl.

Do you know if there is any help towards getting stuff to wear for work? its an office job so im not really kitted out for it! I've heard of this token thing but i am a "plus size" :rotfl: lady so am unsure wether they will have deals that cater to my size!

Do you know of what places work with this scheme?

Many thanks :)

You would need to talk to your advisor at the job centre as they are the one's that arrange for clothing grants to get you back into work.

I know that some of the high street names such as Topshop work within this scheme.

Good luck in your new job & hope it all works out ok for you.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

You should get a clothing grant - up to £100. I think that you may have to go and get prices from various shops, then they make out voucher/cheque for that shop. Not all shops do this, but Evans certainly used to.
Are you also getting the extra £40 a week (for a year) for going back to work after being out of work for a year?

I miss the days I could fit into Top Shop! ;)

I'm pretty sure that you can still use the grant in Evans, and possibly Dorothy Perkins, who go up to a 22 in some of their ranges.

If you are around a 16/ 18 then feel free to PM me, I have a few work clothes that I can no longer fit into, and they're still as good as new (in fact some of them are brand new!).
    Gone ... or have I?

They will ask you to get prices of items, no matter which shop you choose, they will then give you cash to go and buy the items and you have to take them back the receipts. No need to stick to any particular shops. Just talk to your advisor at the job centre.

What about checking out the local charity shops ?
It is amazing what you can find in some of these places ?
Failing that go fo a capsule wardrobe, avoiding anything too trendy, and you can build it up as you go along.
    Good luck.

Thanks for all the quick replies :)

Ive had a look online and im looking at about £80 to just get one set of work clothes! i really hope they can help me out to get started. I'm expecting them to foot the bill for everything but even half would make it a little more manageable.

Thank-you for all the good luck messages it means alot, im so pleased to be finally getting on benefits and start paying my way in the world!

I did have a look in my local charity shops but couldnt find anything suitable for work wear, I'm a 20 - 22 - 24 dependant on wear i shop! so im pretty stuck between New Look, Evans & Yours so hopefully the LPA will be able to work something out for me.

    Thanks again :)

Don't forget to look on Ebay; there are always lots of larger sizes on there as people lose (and put on!) weight.
