Hello All,
I was wondering how long it takes solicitors to do their bit till we sign on the dotted line. I received a phone call from a "progressing agent" for E.A explaining that it needs to be soted out by the end of July as vender is going into hospital and past that point it may not happen at all.
Any experiences?
Kind Regards
Richard.

How long's a piece of string? It depends -how comprehensive and recent is the HIP, do the vendors have all the paperwork for any extensions/renovations etc.
Our purchase (made extra lengthy by the vendors 3 week holiday while we waited for information from them): offer accepted 20th April, hope to exchange on Tuesday. But ours is a messy divorce case, so the hubby vendor has been playing games. With a motivated vendor should be much fasterI refuse to enter a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent:rolleyes:0 -
Offer accepted 13th March.
Mortage application 13th March.
Agreement in principal 13th March.
Survey completed 16th March.
Full written agreement received 18th March.
We met the solicitor 24th March to sign all the papers.
Exchanged 27th March
Completed 21st April - although we were ready to complete on 9th April the vendor couldnt get himself organised in that time.
Moved in 21st April.
But like loki13 says, how long is a piece of string? I consider that our purchase was really easy, no hitches at all, my daughter put in an offer on a property at the same time as us and still hasnt completed since there is some chancel repair issue on the property.

If you have done everything you can on yourside then ring your solicitor every couple of days to chase them along. If they are anything like mine they are good but have a lot on so keep chasing them and don't asume they are working quickly on it. Mine could have happily taken another 2 weeks but I did not want to risk loosing the house. Thankfully all went well.0
