I hope you did manage to sort something out, maybe too late for my suggestion but I will make it anyway. I think that you said your son was OK in himself, but due to his current situation obviously cannot be left alone. Would you be able to take him to work with you? Maybe with an MP3 player or similar and some audio books, even if you could do it for half days it may help.0

I've just come back to have another (apprehensive!) look at this thread as I noticed there had been more posts (although some appear to have been removed?) Thanks for all the support - it really is appreciated.
I did go to see my GP and it was quite traumatic. Having managed to pull myself together quite well over the the weekend I walked into his office, sat down and tried to start talking - I literally couldn't get any words out. I had a total meltdown and finally managed to blub out everything that's been going on - mainly the issues around my son's biological father and the stress that all this has caused myself and my son - but also the other issues with my parents etc. My GP agreed that I needed some breathing space, especially given the current crisis with my son's sight and signed me off for 10 days, saying I should go back to see him if I'm not ready to return to work after then.
My son is recovering steadily. He was back at the hospital on Thursday and his sight has improved a lot. He still has to have eye drops every night for another week but they are much weaker and should only affect him for 12 hours each time. They are really just to ensure that his eye muscles don't go back into spasm.
I am due to go back to work on Thursday and if I'm totally honest I really don't want to, every time I think about going back I start shaking again and there is a part of me that is considering going back to the GP and getting another sick note - however, this is not a path I want to let myself slide down. I have to go back sometime and the longer I leave it the harder it will be.0 -
Hi, I am glad to hear that your son is improving. It sounds like you have been through a lot recently in your personal life, and the additional stress at work was the final straw. Sometimes you have to put yourself first and take time out, so do listen to your GP.
I am also pleased to see that the offensive posts on this thread have been removed. Just goes to show that those in MSE Towers do listen
