Microsoft says stealth rootkits are bombarding Windows XP SP2 machines.

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla.—In a rare discussion on the severity of the Windows malware scourge, a Microsoft security official said businesses should consider investing in an automated process to wipe hard drives and reinstall operating systems as a practical way to recover from malware infestation.

    Usually this process is called "drive imaging"

    funny they forgot to mention that the root sector of the disk needs checking against virii as well

    Maybe businesses should also train there users to avoid clicking on useless pop ups as well while they are at it

    However where i work this isnt necessary, they hire staff who know how to clean up an XP system (if thats possible) ;)

    Linux has next to zero support for most of the main business applications out there (ok not linux fault but still is a major drawback), i could name pieces of software 3 my last company uses

    For the time being linux still stands as a server/home use OS

    Besides, with a bit of planning (and firefox) and user training, windows CAN be secured against this threat
