I am being pressure to subscribe to Sky but find some information difficult to get. Primarily is it possible to run sky and freeview alongside each other. One or two of the sky channels on freeview, sky news and sky3, would not be in the package I would subscribe to on Sky. I would also would like to retain my existing DVD recorder in addition to the sky box.

Yes It Possible. But a couple of things:
1) What SkyBox are your ordering (Normal , Sky+ , Sky+HD)
2) What Connections are on the back of your TV
Sky News & Sky3 come with the sky Variety Package , so unless your only having a different package.Peter: Hey Lois... what's this word? Lois: Evil. Peter: And this one? Lois: Knievel. Peter: And this one? Lois: Was. Peter: And this one? Lois: Born. Peter: And this one? Lois: In.

So you would have your Freeview box connected to your dvd recorder which in turn was connected to your tv via scart or hdmi.
Then you would have your Sky box connected to your tv connected by scart or hdmi
Assuming you have a recent model of tv you should have at least 2 scart or hdmi sockets0 -

Even if you subscribe to Sky's basic package, you get Sky News and Sky 3.
The only time you don't get Sky3 is of you have no card in the box.Dave. :wave:0 -
Many thanks folks. It's a HD ready Panasonic and has two scart connections so it seems it would be possible. I'm not enthusiastic about it and am trying to resist family pressure. I don't think they really appreciate how little you get for your money unless you subscribe to the expensive premium channels but a basic subscription with free broadband would be OK as I would save the existing broadband subscription, unless there is a catch that is. Basically I think paying for TV with advertising is absurd. One or the other but not both.0

Our Broadband that was 8mb with tiscali was costing £19.99 a month then we had the £10 line rental through them as well and then whatever any call charges were. So min payment was £29.99. I said well for £35 we could have Sky+, Broadband & Phone. When we phoned up to order Sky then bumped our package to SKY+HD for free and Free HD Box. Plus we got £50 for moving to sky from tiscali. and what we didnt realise is that when you go HD, you get Broadband and Phone for free or summit like that. So our Monthly Payments work out at £26 with varitey and documentry pack.
So if you move everything to Sky they are willing to do deals and waver costs etc.Peter: Hey Lois... what's this word? Lois: Evil. Peter: And this one? Lois: Knievel. Peter: And this one? Lois: Was. Peter: And this one? Lois: Born. Peter: And this one? Lois: In.

You got that one right mate.0 -
Well it seems that we can't get Sky broadband free in our area, they want £17 a month for up to 40GB which is more than I am paying now for less. I guess the family pressure will be resisted for the time being.
Thanks for all your replies.0 -

Yepo thats exactly what i got when we phoned up or did it on the internet, but the helpdesk online said the lowest they could do is £10. Like i said if your prepaired to change your broadband,tv and phone to them, you will be abel to get very good deals like the one we got (bumping it up to HD)Peter: Hey Lois... what's this word?
