I have had my Skoda Fabia 5 1/2 tears vut do a very low annual mileage <30K to date. Does the need for aircon servicing depend on mileage or time?

If you use the aircon regularly leave it alone - If it ain't broke why fix it?

Unless you feel a drop in performance, indeed leave well alone.

you need to use the aircon on a regular basis otherwise the seals in the pipeline will let the gas out and you will need to get the gas recharged.

If the seals let the gas out, wouldn't it make sense to replace them too?

Else where will the new gas go?

    ?

No they won't. If a seal ('o' ring) lets out the gas it needs replacing.

OP if the a/c is working and getting cold enough, there nothing to do but make sure your garage changes the pollen filter when it needs it and you make sure you run the a/c for around 5 to 10 minutes every week, 52 weeks a year.

When it doesn't get cold enough anymore, then it may need a recharge or it may have a leak.

I don't really understand air-con. My girlfriends fiesta was blowing warm as she never used it (2 years old), went to kwikfit and told them and they said there machine checks if there are leaks and if none tops the car up with gas, been fine since (4 months), cant really understand how gas could have escaped and now doesn't

You really shouldn't use the 'k' word on this forum - you'll only get abuse.... :D

Machine checks for leaks?? I'd love to know how they do that... how long did this check take? Be a bit wary of them - its not that easy.

The gas will, after awhile, gradually 'evaporate' and you may need a recharge. It is in a sealed unit, but it is a gas, so therefore, after awhile you may find some is 'lost'. I'm surprised that a two year old car needs that tho if it has been used correctly or even incorrectly.

they check for leaks by using a chemical in the aircon unit and a uv light,
i have had a car where i did not use the aircon enough and the gas leaked out when i took it to a garage they just recharged the gas no seals were replaced.
