Energy saving bulbs in globe fittings

Options
Is there any reason why you cannot put a (suitably sized) energy saving bulb in one of those spherical glass globe light fittings, like you use in bathrooms? They don't get as hot as the old incandescent ones.
The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life. :)

No problem at all, as well as saving energy the lampholder will last longer as it will not get so hot and brittle.

I think you'll find the lifespan of the bulb will be significantly reduced - heat builds up in the enclosed globe, adversely affecting the electronic control gear built in to the bulb.

I think that maninthestreet is right. There is something to this effect on one of these forum threads. Afraid that I cannot now remember where I read it.
I can afford anything that I want.

We use them in our bathroom globes and haven't noticed any problems. It's getting easier to find the shorter ones now. For ages there weren't any that would fit!
The slow dim start of low energy bulbs is much kinder on the eyes during nocturnal loo trips.
