Smile Banking

Just a quick cautionary tale for anyone with Smile who likes to live on the wrong end of their overdraft. I went 65 pence over my limit after Smile applied interest of £3 to my account. Total charges for this most criminal of offences? £120.

You need to get on to them and sort that out! Don't forget that the charges are usually applied by a computer. Is this the first time that you have gone over your limit? Do you normally run your account well? Ring them up and be nice - ie I am so sorry about going over my limit but I forgot that you were applying the interest to the account. I am reallyl embarrassed blah blah blah but do you think that it might be possible to have some of the £120 in charges removed from the account......

In this initital duel, do not 'complain' about the charges or that it is unfair. Grovel! If that doesn't work, come back and we'll get nastier!
  • The various divisions of coop bank seem to keep coming up on this board. They may claim to be ethical in terms of where they invest your money, but don't seem to be too ethical in terms of how they treat their customers.
