Balance transfer from abroad?

I have about £1000 on a visa in New Zealand and would like to bring the debt here so the exchange costs don't rack up.
Can I do a balance transfer to my UK credit card? I think no but couldn't find anything googling to rule it out.

No UK Credit card will accept BT's from foreign cards0 -

The only way to do it would be to open an account that lets you take either cash or cheques (MBNA for example). To do a BT from NZ to UK is possible, but would be costly. Your issuer would need to IBAN the funds and would also use their currency conversion so it'd be easier to open an account that lets you have cheques or BT to bank facility like MBNA as you can then get the grand and send it via IBAN yourself.
