I have won a bid recently, but soon find out that my parents bought me exactly the same item for my birthday. As I no longer need the won item, should I email the seller to withdraw the purchase? Will that affect my eBay rating?? What about the Unpaid Item Strike??
Advice please....

I think you've entered into a legally binding contract and have to pay for it. You can always resell it?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

If you ask nicely for a mutual transaction withdrawal the seller may agree, i generally have no problem with doing it and i only ever issue unpaid item strikes where the buyer doesn't pay and doesn't respond to any emails or disputes.
However some sellers will refuse to issue a mutual withdrawal and attempt to issue an unpaid item strike, in which case it may be less hassle to pay and then resell it yourself, no harm in asking first though.0
