ok, i hope that this is ok to post this question. really looking for a few tips from mums and dads
for the last 6 months, while back at uni doing a conversion course i have been working as a nanny/mothers help/babysitter to earn some cash. I work with two - three different families and really enjoy it (much to my disbelief!).
Anyway, i have been constantly ill since starting. i have caught every cold, bug and sickness going and feel really out of sorts health wise. I am trying to keep these things at bay, but to no avail.
I ahve re-started taking echinaciea (sp?) but wondered if anyone had tips on how to keep myself in better health around all these virus spreading sprogs????!!!
thanks r.mac

I think it will only last a while and then you will find you get ill less often. My mum used to catch everything going when she worked at the doctors surgery but after a while never caught anything. She had already had everything and her immune system was so good it would fight anything off.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

When my children each started school, we went through this. Now when my brothers and their families are laid up, we are all fine. I used to dread hearing there was an outbreak of this or that as we knew it would go through our whole household but I guess we are reaping the benefits now.0

Since the boys started school, I've caught numerous bugs. I must be immune to the tummy bugs as I rarely suffer with them now, but I still get the cold ones.
Every September when they go back after the summer break, I always get a nasty cold within 2 weeks of term starting! I think children must mutate new bugs over the summer holidays and then swop them all when they go back to school.
The best advice is to eat a healthy diet with plenty of natural vitamins, and keep yourself fit. I haven't been so bad since I got Bob and I have to do lengthy walks every day. Here I go again on my own....0 -
I now take a multivitamin every day along wth vitamin C and find a really big difference. You could always give it a wee try.I am a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Mortgage Free Wannabe & Local Money Saving Scotland & Disability Money Matters. It's a well known fact that newly qualified teachers, especially those in lower primary years, catch every bug that does the rounds. Once your immunity is built up you should be fine - and keep taking the echinnacea (sp?), I swear by it!0

Make sure you get outside in the fresh air as much as you can. Go for walks in the park etc.
Also eat lots of fruit, that always helps boost your system0 -
I agree with Amanda65 - 5 months ago I started working with the elderly as a care worker - initially every month I would have something! - but a carer told me it would settle as my immune system got used to the bugs, and it is begining to settle... so hang on in there sounds like your doing a great job!

Yes I work in a school, new members of staff get everything going. We had new secretary in September, she swears she hasn't been well since she started. I was ill earlier this year but it was the first time I'd had off for almost 6years.if i had known then what i know now0

glad to see that i am not alone! just couldn't believe it when i developed another stinker of a cold - only got rid of the last one about 10 days before that! Ona verage I am catching something two-three times a month which is hard going.
Have started taking echinecea as mentioned previously, I also used to take multivitamins with iron as I am a touch anemic (sp?), so have started again with those. It's an extra incentive to remember them. I have vit C in the house but its horrible effervencent stuff and can't bring myself to drink it - and buying more would hurt too much. may have to experiment on hiding the taste.
thanks for all the tips and reassurance. I am going to be doing this full time over the summer so was getting worried, but it looks like it can only get better.
