Gyms in Glasgow?

Hi,
Just wondering if anyone could give me some information on gyms in glagsow (ideally city centre). I vaguely know which ones are around but I was just looking for some input on which ones people use and think are the best and also on the dreaded price!! I know the Glasgow Club's probably the cheapest but don't want to do this as I have in the past and basically the swimming pool is a must for me and at the times I'm usually able to go the public pools are teeming with kids with doesn't make for a very relaxing swim! So ideally I'm looking for a private club with a good pool and gym facilities at a "reasonable" cost. Any suggestions? Thanks a lot

Theres Virgin Active at Finnieston. Dont know about prices though as they dont seem to have them on the website. We have a deal with them through our work (no idea how much for) but some of the people in the office use it and they seem to like it.

There's a Greens in Finneston which has a swimming pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzis. I haven't been myself but DH has and says it's more or less the same as the one we are members of(Giffnock) although it's a bit older. It's probably got a bigger pool than the hotel gyms which I have found to be pretty useless if you want a swim. There's also David Lloyds but it's further out, near Paisley, but it's also got a pool and is a bigger and in my opinion a better gym than Greens because it also has racket sport facilities. There is also provision for children at Lloyds which may limit your use of facilities. Greens don't have anything other than pool access for children so there aren't usually many of them around. You can check out deals online for Greens to see which package suits you. Hope you find the one that suits you.

Thanks scubaqueen, Emms and Littlereddevil. I know about the Greens out at finnieston and if I was over that side of town I would definitely consider it but since I don't drive its a bit of a trek for me to go all the way over there (2 buses or bus then train) hence why i was hoping for something kind of city centre based. The David Lloyd sounds fab - wish they would open one closer!! I didn't know there was a virgin active but since its again at finnieston i think i'd have to rule it out - thanks for the suggestion though. I also know about livingwell - in fact I used it for a year but its fee is over £50 and was hoping to economise a little more this time! Thanks for the suggestions thought everyone and if anyone has any more I'd be grateful!

The Marriott Hotel in city centre has a gym and a pool. We got an offer at work from them for car parking (were moving to a city centre office with no parking you see ) and they had prices of leisure membership on it for between £32-£37 a month.

Hiya there is an LA Fitness across from central station, Ive never been in it and dont really know about prices and stuff.
I have to say that I am a member of the glasgow club and I can sympathise about the pool situation, I am in the same position. However there are times when it is adults only both daytime and evening. I would give them a bash you might be surprised!

I was with Virgin Active at Finnieston for a good while, prices were very comparable to Greens and it was never too busy. I enjoyed it a lot. I dont think I ever encountered more than 5 people in the pool at any one time either!

Walked past Virgin Active today and its pretty much right beside the exhibition centre train station so pretty handy to get to from city centre too.

mleonard79 - it may help if we knew which area of Glasgow you live in so that we can help you in your quest? Sounds as though you are on the South side if you need 2 buses to get to Finnieston? We started to use Bellahouston Sports Centre for the badminton courts, and that was fine, but I only used the showers afterwards one time and decided to just come home and shower here after that, as it really wasn't that clean. Am quite neurotic about some of these places now.

Hi everyone, sorry haven't had a chance to check in here for the last few days. I'm in Dennistoun (just in the east end) Scubaqueen so to get to Finnieston I'd need a bus into the city centre then either another bus out there or more likely a train. The NRG place is just a 5 mins walk from me but alas no pool or I would go there as I've seen special offers advertised outside. I'll have a look at the Marriott Emms - thanks. The Virgin Active does snd good on the peaceful front and I know its not far from the Exhibition station, I've just been thinking of all the extra I'd be paying out in train fares to be honest!! I've looked at the LA Fitness website Hoopylass - doesn't say much about prices but I'll def have a look at it. I'm thinking as its a chain much like livingwell it might not be too much cheaper but worth a go all the same. If anyone's got any other ideas I'd be grateful but thanks a lot everyone for your help so far.
