Delays...

Just realling posting this for a rant.
We finally found a buyer for our house, accepted an offer, etc etc. Various forms and contracts have been coming / going to and from the solicitors for the past few weeks. Last week we were told that we were ready to exchange contracts and that completion would follow shortly after.
We've just had a phonecall to say that there's a problem with the buyer's mortgage application. Not the actual mortgage itself, that's fine. The problem is that there has "been an outbreak of swine flu in the offices of the mortgage centre and no one is able to finish off the final processing". Apparently this could delay things "for weeks".

Is someone telling us porkies ?

Who told you this, the buyer?
Maybe he is buying time, maybe he will come back in a few weeks and ask if you will accept a lower offer....can't the work be passed onto a different centre?
