My Opinion Extended Warrenties Are Pointless And A Waste Of Money So Why Do People Pay Them ? Save The Monthly Payments As I Do I, I Found Out Warrantie Monthly Payment And Saved It One Item Broke Down After 15 Months What It Cost Was Half What I Had Saved House Hold Items And Warranties (extended Are In Fact Poitless So Why

I also thing extended warranties are rubbish, thats why I have home insurance.
Also if you have an extended warranty that starts the day you buy an item
and you have that extended warranty for 3years are you not getting only 2yrs
as the manufacturers cover you for one year as standard :think:0 -
i agree it is a total mystery to me why people take them out there is no point at all to them there a rip off 1 year g thats all you need0

The parts to fix our washing machine cost more than we paid for the warranty and we got them fitted for us to boot.
I doubt we would do it again as I do less washing now but when you are doing 3/4 loads a day, you know things are going to wear out fast and we managed to get lots changed before the warranty ran out. When we tallied up what we would have paid for the parts, we were definitely quids in for that machine.
The repairs were all done in the third year of the warranty.0 -
I have never taken extended warranties out. I took this decision after going around out house and pricing how much I would be paying out if I had a warranty on everything in the house. After a few sums I realised that I could fully repace three to four large items or all the small items for less money than the extended warranties would have cost ... therefore by the law of averages I am willing to accept the basic 1 year warranty on the grounds that most electricals will fail within a few months if at all .. and if they fail outside of that then big deal .. I just replace it and am still quids in.

example i bought a microwave £140 extended warrantie £5 pm thats £60 in first year another 6months and i could buy a new one.
washing machine £305, warr pm£9.45 two years and could have bought again the rule of thumb is if it goes pop it will be in first 12 months serious breakdown first 3 months so there totaly pointless0 -
What you can do is to find out how much an extended warranty would cost when you buy a new item, then instead of buying the warranty, put that amount of money into a savings account (or a cash ISA would be better). When a machine breaks down out of warranty, you will have a nice pot of money to use to either pay for a local repair person to call (usually cheaper and quicker than the warranty boys), or buy a new one. My washing machine broke down a week before christmas, the official repairers couldn't attend until after christmas (too busy) and even then, that would only be to give a quote. The local repairman arrived next day (Saturday) had a look, popped back to the shop to get the parts and fitted them the same day. All for £80. A bargain.
Plus if your machines never break down you will still have a nice pot of money and interest!!0 -
I normally steer well clear of ex. warranties, but our Bosch DW has just run out of its 2 year guarntee it came with - they sent through a form to extend it for another year for less then £30, that to me was good value as it is less then 10% of what we paid for it in the first place, will renew it next year if it is the same price.
I do remember buying an electric shaver from Comet a few years ago and the girl on the checkout tried to sell me an ex. warantee, I asked her is it likely to fail after the 1st year, she said yes, so I placed the item on the counter and told her I will go and buy a more reliable one elsewhere and walked out - she was not a happy bunny :rotfl: :rotfl:0 -

In general I agree...howeever I think there may be exceptions. When I bought my laptop I was offered a 3 year extended warranty for £60. Knowing that they can take a bit of a bashing and be temperamental I bought it and have been very glad. After 15 months (outside manufacturers guarantee) all the USB ports failed and the main board needed replacing. After 18 months DVD drive died and needeed replacing. In both cases the machine was couriered away for repair and return within one week. It wasn't much fun trying to deal with the repair company but it worked and saved me a lot more than paying for new parts and having it repaired locally.Just because somebody is certain doesn't mean they are right!0
