Hi,
I have a Dell Inspiron 5160 which has a TV Out at the back, I want to connect this up using a cable that I bought which connects a 4pin S-Video into the back of the laptop to a scart cable which has seperate red/white RCA? cables for sound.
The thing is my laptop has a nine pin s-video connector so the 4pin cable i going into the 9 pin socket at the back of my laptop.
I have connected it, but nothing seems to happen,
Any one have a clue?
Cheers

Hmmm! I never realised my laptop had a 9 pin s video connection.
I have Dell inspiron 6000.
Whilst in Aldi last week I bought a scart s-video connection kit "impulse buy as it was cheap"
I assumed you would just connect one end to the tv and the other to the laptop but when I did this nothing happened.
I am thinking now that the s video cable I bought has 4 pins like yours.
Will keep an eye on this thread.
Good luck.
Sorry I canne help ya.0 -
The 9-pin socket is to take a Dell adaptor which gives S-video out, composite video out and digital audio out. Having said that it's configured that a standard s-video cable works.
If you haven't done so, try hooking the cable up before switching on the laptop and see if that helps.
I don't know which graphics option you have but some have an option to turn on the tv-out in the display settings. What goes around - comes around0 -
my laptop has a hotkey to turn on tv out. it can also be done from the display options panel0

Hi,
I had to download a driver for my graphics card which means I can turn the poutsput to tv, so it works good then.
Quality isnt good for anything except watching Divx or DVD's0 -
TV out may be turned off by default in the BIOS.
