Natwest opening current account help?

Hey,

I applied to open a NatWest Current Plus account in May (Online). I was asked to provide some forms of ID and received all of that back with a standard letter saying I should be notified of the outcome within 7days. This letter was dated the 4th June.

I phoned after 9 days had passed and was told they had received a lot of applications recently and if there was a problem with my application I would have heard. So at this stage I'm led to believe I'm simply waiting for my new account.

It seems to be taking a long time to open an account. I did apply to RBS originally and I received the same standard letter and nothing more. When I called they told me there was no account related to my application and they couldn't see any notes as to why my application hadn't been processed and I was told to apply again.

My concern is that applying for these is damaging my credit rating as both accounts had overdrafts. Has anyone else recently applied online for either RBS or NatWest?

    Hi

Natwest are notoriously slow in their response. As RBS and Natwest are one of a same, this would explain your delay with both.

Can I ask why you have chosen these two banks in particular?

If time allows, you could call into say Lloyds TSB and apply directly for an account, and get an instant decision, no waiting around for things to happen, you know there and then.

Applying for various accounts will reduce your Credit Scoring, and too many applications in a short space of time, will have negative consequences, but as each lender has different criteria, one can never say for sure what the outcome will be.

You mentioned accounts with Overdrafts, well, Lloyds TSB will automatically inform you whether you qualify for an overdraft or not, and sometimes this is even given as part of the application process if you score highly enough, perhaps it may be a good idea to cut your losses with Natwest and avoid further wait, better to know sooner or later where you stand, and even better when you can see your application being done face-to-face. Good luck, from The Gazelle.:D

I originally chose RBS as there is a small branch nearest to me. I applied online sent all the requested details pack and signed the form and heard nothing. They couldn't explain why and said I should goto the branch as my original application had now expired. They'd already lost me by this time.

I chose NatWest (mainly because they are two of the same) but because of it's better internet banking and there is a large branch near my work. According to Experian RBS have searched but NatWest haven't.

Well I didn't apply to RBS for the internet banking but rather for it being closer to my home.

I'm fed up chasing now I'll just stick with the bank I am so keen to leave lol!
