OP I think you were right to take sensible precautions. Holiday queen was brill in her advice.
However, Jem is right - people can get your details from anywhere. I think, on a positive, the original post is a good reminder to everyone to be vigilant about their personal details to prevent identity theft :rolleyes:Thomas Jefferson: "When you reach the end of your rope, tie a knot in it and hang on."

Hi dribsndrabs
Thank you for your message. Much appreciate. The details I found I was more concerned about were e.g. email address, card details etc ... I agree that certain personal details can be obtainable in more places than maybe we realise, but such as telephone number, email address, card details I just feel are sometimes harder to obtain. I could well be wrong, but, because I didn't know what the parcel was, and what details could be in it, I was having to think of every scenario.

Dinkie - just a quick one. I've taken the advice of others because I do a lot of competitions too.
I've got an email account I've set up for competitions only. I've also got a phone number that again is for competitions only. I would advise you, and anyone, to do the same. For example, if you go on the freebie thread on here, then go onto the free sim card offers - you can get yourself a new phone number for free. If you've got an old handset, you could pop the sim card in here. This gives you a bit more control over the situation.
Hope that helps someoneThomas Jefferson: "When you reach the end of your rope, tie a knot in it and hang on."

Hi dribsndrabs
Great advice. Many thanks for recommending freebie thread too. Definitely sounds like the best way to do competitions!
Best regards, Cat :-)0 -
if its a prize win, why would there be any details in it why would a company you have won a prize from have such details other than your name and address, under DPA i'm sure companies are not allow to hold details not pretaining to their business about you.0

I've said at least twice in the thread about not knowing what it was or what details were contained, and also said that I hoped the package was a prize win, as then it would only contain a compliments slip.0 -

I wasn't being rude at all, simply quickly replying to detail what I'd said, as I realised you hadn't read what I'd said. If you prefer to think I'm being rude, and put in bold certain words that I didn't put in bold or emphasize at all, I'm afraid there's nothing I can do about that. Must just be a confusion because it's written online, as it sounded like you maybe thought I wasn't up to understanding a prize win wouldn't contain any details to worry about. If you didn't mean that, no problem, but I wasn't being rude. Not continuing with this kind of discussion, and have already made this point earlier in the thread.0
