delivery stolen/worried about identity details

Hi
Apologies if I'm posting on the wrong board. It's just that the delivery that's been stolen can only be a prize win, as I'm not expecting any other deliveries, but it must be one of those where you aren't emailed and they just send it out, so I have no idea what it could have been or who to contact to get the details the police need. The police have been great, and have said to get as many details from the postman tomorrow regarding anybody who was hanging around and all the details about the package. I'd gone straight out and asked any of the neighbours who were outside. I know the postman well, and have been lucky so far that the arrangement of leaving things in the shed has worked okay ... I realise now that it was a silly risk to take really, and am going to ask him to not leave them outside any more. A neighbour's kindly offered to take anything in.
What I'm most worried about now, seeing as I can't locate who the package has come from, is what personal details were in the paperwork that will have possibly been sent with the package. Don't know if I'm overreacting about this, but it's shaken me up a bit, especially as the person must have been watching, and, if it was a computer prize, they may realise I have a computer. But if they have my name, address, possibly email and phone number, they could easily use my identity? I'm very glad I reported it to the police, but am wondering what is best to do ... best to change email and all passwords straight away? But changing my phone number might be awkward, as I only have a mobile.
Would really welcome some advice, as am feeling nervous about this and about leaving the flat empty even for a little while.
Thanks, Cat

Hi Dinki,
Try CIFAS ONLINE, sorry cant do a link but this may help you.
Good luck.0 -
Unfortunately, i'm not aware of any other options.
I appreciate you may want to keep your outlay to a minimum, but if you seriously believe you're id may have been stolen it will be the best money you have ever spent.
It would certainly save you some sleepless nights, and stop any potential problems for the future.
Maybe someone else will come up with a better option.0 -
A CIFAS warning protects you from further misuse if your address has been misused.
I do not know if it would be necessary to change any details of accs ect that you currently have. If you are unsure and feel it necessary then i would say go ahead and do it, but if you are going to register with CIFAS i dont think waiting overnight is going to make a dramatic difference except to your peace of mind.
CIFAS will give you all the help you need i'm sure.
Good luck again.0 -
I'm happy you felt the info given was of value to you.
I received good advice this week on this site for a problem i had, which had a positive outcome.
Sometimes its nice to give as well as receive. :beer:0 -

ummm, not to be stupid or anything but a delivery address is not excatly difficult to work out. I would doubt anyone could steal your ID from it. Also if this person knows you have a computer? what differance does that make? they would still have to figure out your passwords and stuff.
Think you might be getting a little bit stressed over something small.JeremyMarried 9th May 20090 -

You have no idea what you are talking about. If your only purpose in posting is to have a go at someone for taking sensible precautions (as advised across the board by the media/police etc etc etc) by posting for advice, don't waste the time doing it.0 -
you can find peoples address from loads and loads of places!! I am just saying that I think it is a bit of an over reaction. Also I am not having a go at anyone, if you bother to read the orignal post it says do you think I am over reacting.JeremyMarried 9th May 20090

You have no knowledge of my circumstances, and I am not going into these, as it is private. I am asking you to not comment further. You don't know what I have experienced regarding this kind of thing, or how upset I was yesterday, which can surely be understood from reading the first post. This is a pointless conversation, so just leave it as it is.0
