"Permitted development" means development without needing pp.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

You could say you’d be happy to have a smaller extension to the front to show ‘good will’ but it will be a bit false, they can build a smaller porch without your blessing if they wanted to or not. I did mention that the front extension looks a bit odd and I think that’s the only avenue you can explore. I can’t see that you would lose much light anyway. The test the council will probably use is to draw a line from the centre of your window at 45 degrees and if the proposed extension encroaches on it you may have an argument that the extension could cause you harm, is your house really going to be that dark? They’ve hipped the roof there anyway so there is a minimal amount of building that has the potential to affect your light.

Just a word of caution! If they dont already know you are not happy with their plans for construction, they will soon find out. Their file will be an open file that can be accessed by themselves at any point during the planning process, so all the information will be there for them to see. Also i find that if neighbours object to constructions it can be a case for sour grapes and you will find that you will not be able to build anything yourself! Sorry it has happened to someone I know in the past.

Another thing I always wondered is if someone submitted plans and got them accepted. Once it was built can the neighbours object then and something be done about it?
    oooooooh i luv a bargain :)

Is there a 'building line' in your street? Where I live people have difficulty with getting front extensions in which jut out in front of other properties. Are there other similar properties down the street which have been extended to the front (in which case you could be B*ggered), or is this the first?

With our side extension we couldn't even build up to the existing building line of our property, they made us step it back about a foot to avoid what they called a 'terracing' effect (daft when we're detached and the neighbouring house is about 4ft forward of ours!).

  • We have just received the decision from the planning dept. - they have permitted this development :mad:

Is there any way we can appeal or do anything about it...? Or this decision is final?

personally, i can't see how this affects you at all.

i don't really think a planning committee CAN see in your favour at all. objectively, all you are doing is objecting to an extension.

if i were your neighbour i would be irritable that you had objected. if i were you i would give up beacause in the long run you will probably lose this one.

your neighbour is only doing what countless others have done before - add space onto their property. unless you can demonstrate how this REASONABLY affects you then you have effectively lost.

but you can be positive - there is nothing to stop you extending your own property and add value onto it ... and just think, your neighbours will have no reasonable grounds to object.

As far as you are concerned the decision is final. Sorry!

If your neighbour had been refused planning permission then he would have had the right to appeal.

As Terry says there are no rights to appeal on an application made by anyone else. The only thing you can do is if you believe the case has been mismanaged, take it to the ombudsman.
