Equifax - current address not listed

Hi,

I've been trying to obtain an iPhone but both O2 and Carphone Warehouse are unable to run a credit check due to the fact my address is not listed with Equifax. I contacted them on Monday and was told to visit their website and go to the 'Online Dispute' page and log a request to have my address added. After many trials and tribulations, I managed to log a request (the website is so poorly designed it offends me) but have yet to receive a response almost five days later.

Is there anything more I can do? After originally discovering that Carphone Warehouse were unable to find my address, I checked Experian for my credit report - it worked fine without any problems, although there were some issues regarding my credit history not being mine, I'd somehow inheirited my father's but this is now resolved. Obviously, I'm eager to check with Equifax if there are any issues with my credit report (as well as getting my new phone, as my current one has just died) but their customer service leaves a lot to be desired...

I'm running out of patience and being ignored is not helping matters. Where do I go from here?

You'll need to wait I guess.

Have you checked you're now properly listed with Experian? If you are, you could always take a printout of your details from there and show it to the Carphone Warehouse if you really wanted to. And are you on the electoral register?

Lol, oh yeah and "some issues regarding my credit history not being mine" is actually a massive issue :) but sounds like you're addressing it.

I have had this happen, you need to write to them for a copy of your paper report, enclsoing £2, and tell them to look your address up on the Postcode Address File, they will then add you to their system. This often happen with flats, and new builds.

Equifax are slow but they do eventually get back...
Will O2 not allow you to pay a deposit as security? They're normally refundible after 3 months or something...

    Thanks for the reply :)

I'm registered with Experian, no problems there - I guess I just haven't tried to get credit from anywhere that only uses Equifax until now, heh.

The issue with my credit history is being resolved by Experian, it relates to a bank deciding I am an alias of my father who has a poor credit history due to defaulting on a number of loans a few years ago - despite the fact the loans were taken out when I was about 14 years old, Goldfish decided I'm not really who I am...

    Cheers savagej, will try that.
