Empty credit report - confused

Hi everyone,

I've just received my credit report from Equifax after requesting it by post for £2.

A little confused as it doesn't seem to have much information on it. All it has is a property valuation for the flat i'm renting, and my previous address where I was registered for many years. Nothing else.

I have a loan, credit card, overdraft, DD's however nothing is on there. I'm not sure if this is a blessing in disguise due to a few late payments being missing or whether this complete lack of financial information is seriously affecting my credit etc.

What do I do folks? Write to Equifax for an explanation? (have e-mailed but no response in a week). Or have I misunderstood what is shown in a credit report?

Many thanks!

Andy

Might sound like a bit of a dumb question, but is your name and current address spelt correctly?

Are you on the electoral role in the your current property?
    Is that information there?

It's possible that the companies you've used do not use the Equifax CRA (not all companies use all 3 CRAs).
This is possible if you only have 2 or 3 credit accounts.
However if you've had many credit accounts over the last 6 years (my count is about 22) then it's unlikely that all of them would miss Equifax and it would indicate that something is amiss.

Can your name/address be spelt in different ways?
If your electoral role information is present then that indicates they have identified you correctly.

I will agree with Lisyloo. There are various possible reasons this could happen. I would speak from experience. I have a contract phone from Vodafone which has always shown on both my credit reports from Equifax and Experian. However, for some reason I have never been able to work out, Vodafone made a slight variation to my address. I don't know how they did it or who authorised them to do it but instead of having me down as Flat 1, 251 ..... Road, they had me down as 1, 251 .... Road. Believe me when I tell you, that small variation caused my Vodafone account to disappear from my credit report from Experian. It was eventually sorted by me going back to Vodafone and asking them to correct my address as Experian would have it. The funny thing is my report from Equifax didn't have that problem. My account was always on there so I assume its some silly system used by the other CRA. Double check all your accounts and make sure the addresses they have for you are exactly in the format the CRA does have. Check the spelling of your name and all other minor details to make sure they all correspond. In as much as having little history may be seen as a bonus, it will make it difficult for any new lenders to give you credit coz they will say they do not have any historical data about how you manage your finances.
  • Variation in the address is a old problem for many institutes. Just wonder if one percent of the total address gets wrong what it will create? Beside you are saying that it has your old address. Maybe they didn't update to your new address.
