    Poor you Beanie - I meant to say have you tried clove oil?? It tastes gross (try not to get it on your tongue) but you can use it in addition to all painkillers - my dentist uses it to numb the tooth/gums before injection by soaking a cotton wool pad with the stuff and sticking it on the affected area...

    Its pretty cheap too...but not good long term obviously...

    I also recommend clove oil for the short term. The taste is absolutely gross - makes me wretch but the effect at numbing the area is amazing.
