redec of bathroom- taps or tiling first?

old taps need replaceing, and tiling around the bath also needs redoing (ok, bit of a bodge last time, but its showing now..)

so, do I fit new taps, then retile around them?
or take off taps, for easy(er) access to tiles for replacing, get stinky while the glue sets etc, then fit new taps?

not sure whats under the bath surround, so no idea if that is easy job in itself..

Tiles first and then let the grout etc dry before doing the taps.

I would advocate the removal of the taps first and then re-tile. However, from experience, it can be a right pig to replace bath taps. Due to the near impossibility sometimes, of getting access. There is quite a lot of comment about replacing bath taps, to be found elsewhere on these forums. Not much of it favourable.

Are the taps attached to the bath or the wall?

taps go into the bath. rather tight between them and wall. a wooden board covers the front of bath, all way along.

Will you be taking off the old tiles?

Don't make the mistake of tiling over old tiles then realise the taps dont turn as there isn't enough room between the tiled wall and handles

I would remove the taps and tile once tiles set replace taps, you should be able to grout the tiles with the taps in place.

I still don't understand why taps have to still be attached to a bath. Much easier having them on the wall.

Remove the taps, Fix tiles with rapidset, Grout, silicone bath then re-fit taps

It can be a difficult to achieve a perfect finish with silicone when the taps are fiited

If you have issues with leaking tiles get some tanking membrane fitted behind the tiles

only bottom or or 4 4 rows of tiles need replacing- look a bit grotty to be honest, from years of water splashes, etc.

i know that there are some wooden slats on main wall behind the bath, which the tiles either rest on, or are glued to perhaps? they could be in poor shape after many years, so dont really wantto make this a bigger job than it needs to be!
