Windows 7 "upgrade voucher"

Just looking at PCSpecialist site, and notice they are now offering W7 vouchers with Vista. The normal price of VISTA 64 bit with them is £75, but for only £10 more get a Uograde voucher for W7.

How can they already be offering this ? and how does the voucher work, do you take it to the shop when W7 released?

I think i will get my system, with them, as they are only ones i know who are offering the free upgrade so early.

As soon as it's out, there are going to be people wanting the downgrade vouchers to Vista or XP.

I disagree. People wanted to downgrade from Vista to XP because the performance hit was terrible. I've beta tested Windows 7, and it runs really well, even on older hardware.

I too am interested in this upgrade voucher thing. Windows Vista Home Premium OEM with the win7 upgrade voucher is available for around £90, yet I envisage Windows 7 costing more than this at launch...

Retail pricing has already been stated,(home prem) £50 if you pre-order till release, £80 on release till 31 dec, £150 from thereafter.
There is no information on OEM pricing but if you take the retail pricing as a guide they will be similar to vistas OEMs prices.

Because of these prices the upgrade voucher system isn't the most cost effective path.
Cheapest path is to download the Windows 7 RC to use now and pre order a copy of home premium. £40 less and you dont have to use vista for 5 months only to switch to somthing new later.

ps if you're not a littlewoods (listed as a ms preorder partner) customer you can get £15 your purchase (codes are floating around), plus 8% quidco... so Windows 7 HP for about £32

You a re probably right, but they'd be pretty stupid considering the good versions have an XP virtual mode built in!

But XP mode in Windows 7 will only work if both your CPU chip and your BIOS support virtualisation. See several Ed Bott articles, perhaps starting with this one...

Windows 7 home premium doesn't come with an xp licence you need pro or ultimate. or an existing xp licence you can transfer in.

No home user will use it anyway, the only reason people want xp is beacuse they are scared of changing from somthing they know (same reason linux isn't really massive among home users) or they might have 1 odd program which might need xp (but havn't tried to run it under compatability mode) or some ancient piece of hardware.
And their shouting scared other people into thinking the same thing.

Yep, as far as I'm aware the intent for the XP mode is for business and development purposes, it's not designed for home use. I'm pretty used to Vista at home now and wish I had it on my main PC at work (but for development reasons I use XP). What little I've used of 7, I've been impressed by it and am definitely looking forward to proper release. Anyone downgrading to XP from it would be doing it out of fear of change. Downgrading to Vista would be out of stupidity and fear, considering that 7 is essentially an evolution to Vista.

Using the RC candidate and this is one OS that I will be buying. The preorder price is fantastic. To the OP, I would save the money on the Vista and download and use the RC for the 6 months to October. In July preorder the WIN 7 at £50 and you save your self money but will have to do a clean install in October though or later if you want
