I don't use AOL, but I believe that there are some people desperate enough even today in these enlightened times that do :(

Would be a good idea to ask your friend what s\he has installed recently that changed the behviour of their email client. If it's something simple, simply uninstall it.

Then it might be a good idea to ask your friend if they are using Outlook Express, or some other kind of AOL provided email client. If it's OE then ensure they have the 'Inbox' selected, then they can click on View then whatever option it is that displays ALL the emails they've got in their Inbox. The word View you will note is on the email client at the top of the client itself, select the setting that will show 'ALL' emails ie: there is a setting to 'show unread', 'show read' etc, they want the one that shows ALL! Just to labour the point.

If that doesn't' work, ensure that they've set their View settings to show their emails in the right order. So click on View\Show All then Sort By\Date\Descending. This will hopefully mean that all their unread email headers will show at the top, so they will have to move down in order to read them. If they have a 'threaded or unthreaded' option, they may wish to tick that too.

If none of that works then get them to call AOL and ensure that they've not messed up and are deleting them at source.

    HTH
It could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.
