Dodgy Sky+ box-outside warranty

Got a Sky Plus box which is more than 1.5 years old.It keeps freezing up every so often.
We are still paying Sky for basic packages, is there anychance of getting Sky to replace the box or provide a subsidised one?

Ring up and ask to be put through to cancellations.
Tell them you want to cancel because your box is faulty.
Tell them you cant afford a new one etc....and so are cancelling your subscription!
They may just offer you a free box and waive the 60 pound call out charge!!
Be firm ...you are cancelling because the box is broken and you have no money for a call out charge and replacement!!
Try this cheaper phone number 01506 831609 (when the recorded message asks for your home telephone number........press zero 10 times, you'll get through quicker!) Make Sure You Have your Customer Account reference Number Handy!

i was offered a service call for 1/2 price...£32.50. thsi covers checking all installation inside and outside and replacement box if necessary with a refrub one.
Other choice was £99 for a new box.0 -
When my puppy chewed through the satellite cable they offered me a "fix all" call out for £65. They replaced the cable and even offered to replace my 4 1/2 yr old box in the price.0

booked a service call for next week...do not really have time to keep haggling with them..and £32.50 is not so bad if it means my system will be checked over and repaired if needed. although i think its the box, and i can keep my old box if they change it,which is good enough for kids in spare room if i get multi room in future.thanks for the update......

Had similar problem last month, original HD box went faulty... got fed up with all the hassle of being told £60 fee to come out and look and possible £150 for new box... threatened to cancel...went away to speak to a "manager", low and behold new box, fully fitted no charge!! Be all and end all with Sky as much as they stretch you to see how serious you are, mention "Virgin" and they fall over themselves to retain your custom...also got £5 compo as a gesture of goodwill for waiting 20 mins in phone queue!! :-)0

Stick to your guns and don't pay the call out. My Sky+ box has been replaced 4 times in 18 months, the last 2 times out of warranty and I have not paid a single fee.
They tell you you have to pay but just tell them to put you through to cancellations and you then get to speak to someone with common sense who is incentivised to keep customers not lose them.
Keep calm at all times and explain the situation to them that you can't afford the call out or to pay for channels you canot watch and they will relent.
This works every time for me and I have even had an engineer come and replace a box on Sunday morning!!
I know the above is common practice because when I got the calls from sky's insurance service after my box went out of warranty, I just said why would I pay for a warranty when Sky will replace it for free out of warranty if I threaten to cancel? They just said Ok fair enough and hung up :T
Don't pay when Sky's shoddy equipment fails, this site is about consumer power make sky have it

Then it is faulty and under the terms of the sale of goods act you are entitled to a replacement or a refund. No way should you pay for any call out charges.0 -
you need sky box to watch there services,cant pay for something your not getting.0
