Building a outdoor Climing frame

Options
Hi,

I wonder if someone could assist me.

We have been thinking about getting a climing frame / Activaty centre for the kids in the garden.

However, having looked at the prices they seem rather expensive for a few peices of wood and a bit of plastic.

So i am considering building one from stratch and buying the Slide and swings to aatach to it.

My question is has anyine ever built one from scratch? and if so how difficult is it.

I am a [STRIKE]very[/STRIKE] no extremly good at DIY so i don't really see a problem building.

However, i don't like going into any project blind so would appriciate any feedback.

Thankyou in advance for your feedback and advise.
:jTo be Young AGAIN!!!!...what a wonderfull thought!!!!!

My neighbour has just assembled one that he bought on line. The assembly is not particularly difficult. As has been suggested, I would also suggest that you obtain a picture from a catalogue or an on line supplier and have a go yourself. The dimensions are not going to be critical.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

    Hi,

I've made one for our kids and one for some friends over the last couple of years and as long as you plan out what you want to make then there should not be any problems.

I used 8" x 2" joists to build the majority of mine and then painted it with fence preservative.

The one built to friends used 4" x 4" tanilised timber for the frame and decking for flooring.

They were largely constructed with half lap joints and coach bolts to make sure nothing moved. The technique to cutting dozens of such joints was to use a circular saw to do lots of cuts where the joint is, knock out the waste with a hammer and clean up with a chisel.

Mine cost £200 for a 2 tier compact tower wth climbing wall, fireman pole + more. The other one was 4 interconnecting towers and that was £500
