My laptop completely broke down last week after doing a Windows Update and I had to put it in for repair (first time ever!)
I used to have Avast but the guy didn't recommend it and now I have a free trial of Norton 360 When trying to access my internet banking (even though it is https) I get this:-
There is a problem with this website's security certificate.

No option to continue, close or nothing. Should I just remove Norton and go for Avast again, or should I try something else? (he recoomended Norton or Kapersky)

For starters Don't Install Nortons that is the worst thing you could do , and he shouldn't recommened it, its a overhyped bit of software.
Remove it all and i would recommened using Kaspersky.Peter: Hey Lois... what's this word? Lois: Evil. Peter: And this one? Lois: Knievel. Peter: And this one? Lois: Was. Peter: And this one? Lois: Born. Peter: And this one? Lois: In.

I thought it was rubbish, I just wanted a second opinion. I tried it before, didn't like it then and don't like it now!0

I'm running AVG and haven't had any problems so far, whatever security you use just make sure you back up your files on a disc every few weeks. There is a whole section on the MSE main pages dedicated to this;
