eon doubling my bills!

i took out a contract with eon after using the money supermarket comparison site. All was well with my direct debit set at 60 pound a month for 6 months. i then received a bill for over 600 pounds, after queying the sudden rause in usage i was told the deal i took out with money supermarket did not actually exist. i asked why i was allowed to take out a deal that did not exist and why had i not been informed. apparently there is nothing i can do about it, i am locked into the deal untill oct and am paying 90 pounds throughout the summer months to make up for the shortfall. is there any advice anyone can give me?

If you think there was a deal where you could use as much energy as you wanted and only pay £60 a month for six months, then it didn't exist. The deal on Moneysupermarket would have been one of eon's tariffs and you signed up to it - the DD was set at £60 a month bases on information you gave and was reviewed. Now reviewed, it's obvious your usage is much too high for such a low DD.

Your DD has been increased to clear your debt - when it's cleared you can switch but make sure you're paying less than per kwh than you are now.
  • didnt think i could use as much energy as i liked (although that would have been nice!!) more worried i was allowed to take out a deal that didnt actually exist. considering i live in a small one bedroom house on my own with no tumble drier, dishwasher etc i even ration my heating in the winter to three hours a day! i have been told by other companys i have a low usage.
from what i remember i was entitled to 20 pounds cash back which i have never received!!

Check your meter readings to see if they tally up with EON's

Yes, check the meter readings but £90 a month is not a lot these days.

    Hi wolfebe,

When you changed over to E.ON you should have received a welcome letter, this will have shown the tariff you chose, unit prices and confirmed your Direct Debit.

You say you took out a deal that did not exist, have you compared your tariff details from E.ON with what you looked at on the comparison site?

The Direct Debit on money supermarket will have been calculated on the information that you entered, did you use your actual usage in kWh?

It sounds like you have picked a Capped tariff, as you say that this has an end date in October.

This means that the unit prices are capped, but the Direct Debit is not, the payments will need to cover the amount of energy that you are using.

You could pay off the balance and then ask for your Direct Debit be re-calculated to cover your usage.

Give a man a comparison website and he can save money...

Give a man a brain cell and he can think, read and understand teh world around him

I think you need a brain cell...
