In pc at the moment..is a Radeon X800XT. Fan on it is dead and pc manufacturer is going to replace it. They don't have the same card anymore and have offered a Radeon 1800GTO which is a new card and they say it is slightly better than mine.
I'm not up on all the technical bits but this new card is selling for a fair bit under £200 whilst the one I have still seems to be selling for £300 on average.
Not sure what to do but I need to phone them to let them know this afternoon. Obviously I can't make an argument on cost but would appreciate some pointers.
Can anyone please give me an opinion as to whether this is an ok route to accept or not? Just don't want to be 'palmed off' by company.
TIA

Yeah I'd try and get something like an X1800XL from them.
From looking at benchmarks, the X1800XL is slightly better than the X800XT. The X1800GTO will be a level down from the X1800XL.

Thanks wolfman....I'll ask for the XL version. If they wont play ball am I better accepting the offered card or asking them to get a replacement x800xt? Or is it six and half a dozen between the two regardless of price?Herman - MP for all!0

It depends on the spec of your X800XT. To be honest, the X1800GTO will probably be about the same, but try and push for an X1800XL if you can.
The prices of X800XT's can vary quite a bit, especially depending upon the amount and type of memory, plus other extras.
If you want to be safe, request an X1800XL, and if they say no, say you'd like an X800XT then.
If they won't budge, an X1800GTO will be fine. In fact I've read that you can nearly run it as an X1800XL anyway (very similar specs) with the right know how."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -
I would not go for the X800XT - I appreciate that the price is still listed as in the region of £300 but its not as capable as either version of the X1800. If you can push them to an X1800XL that'd be great (I've got the AIW version in a works machine and its very good). I've had an X800XT PE and its not got the performance of the X1800, nor some of the shader features. Second hand prices have plummetted as well. I just picked up an Asus X850XT PE (with an Arctic Cooler in the bundle) for £105 which gives you an idea of the market value.0

Phoned Pc company with the above info and they agreed to supply XL, I'm just waiting on a date now.Herman - MP for all!0 -
