Expensive Home Insurance-Workaround?

Hi,
I've just received my home and contents renewal and it's increased from £500 to nearly £700. I was told that this is because of a claim for a damaged laptop during the last policy and a claim for another laptop on the previous year's policy (don't ask
-stepped on one, dropped the other!).
Anyway, I have a joint mortgage with my partner, but the insurance policy is in my name only, and the laptops were both mine and claimed by me.
Question is, if my fiancee (we are not married yet) applies for home/contents insurance at for our house, does she have to declare any claims as the previous policy was not under her name?
If this isn't workable, would I be better off sticking with my current insurer for contents (I can't see anybody else wanting to insure me) and going elsewhere for the building insurance?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

You partner would have to declare any claims for any immediate family or partners living with him / her.
Why don't you have a shop around with other companies and make sure you declare the claims.0 -
Thanks for your reply. I think a shop around is my only option.0
